DONALD Trump’s viral “covfefe” message on Twitter could have a hidden meaning with speculation rife over what the US president actually meant.

The bizarre tweet by Donald Trump unleashed a wave of speculation amid reports the US president is poised to pull the US out of the Paris climate agreement.

Shorty after midnight local time, Donald Trump wrote: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.”

The post, since deleted, was followed by another message that sought to put a playful tone on the misfire, saying: “Who can figure out the true meaning of “covfefe” ??? Enjoy!”

The original message, which seemed to have been the start of a Trump complaint about media coverage, soon became a top trend on Twitter.

But Andre Milne, the founder of defence technology company Unicorn Aerospace, claims to have uncovered what Mr Trump really meant.

He told “I examined Covfefe and it is hands down the most brutal insult ever used. Trump is a genius.

“It is beyond an insult. It is a fusion of two distinct items intertwined in a manner that attacks a third item in an absolutely disgusting yet truly genius encryption.

“The first item is ‘cov’. That relates to emissions to toxic and hazardous fumes.

“The second item is ‘fefe’. That relates to sex in prison sub culture.

“His usage of it in context of news media is abundantly clear that he thinks reporters are cut from the same material as the ‘fefe’ used in prison and that reporters have the same stench as toxic fumes as association with ‘cov’.

“A brutal insult indeed.”

Some users sought clarification from dictionary company Merriam-Webster. They did not get a definition but did draw a response.

  1. Nope….. that's not what it means…. here is a hint…. it's not from the English language.

  2. Trump just made up those GDP numbers like he always does.

  3. Genius and Trump do not belong in the same sentence. He's a jerk and his supporters are stooges. He thinks his fans are idiots. He's right.

  4. way to go… as long as it will save we the people who have been
fleeced by so many nations for so long, I support it!!

Turns out the translation is wrong.
“This is insane,” Yale University Islam scholar and Arabic speaker Andrew March told The Daily Beast. “Why would they think this?”
After a few hours, even the same r/the_donald post was amended to answer that question.
“Yeah if you follow the link to google translate, it first transliterated the English word into an approximate Arabic phrase ‘sof fuqof,’ sof simple being the future tense ‘I will,’ and ‘fa qaaf fa’ meaning stand up,” wrote user MantananForTrump.
“Since cuvfefe has no glottal ‘qaaf’ sound in it, this is merely a mistake of Google Translate’s original transliteration and it doesn't mean what the English phrase says at the bottom.”
